Scoliosis Foundation (Ghana) SFG is a Patient-led Nonprofit and Non-governmental Organization established to promote a nationwide educational campaign to highlight the importance of early diagnosis in children and treatment of scoliosis in both children and adults throughout Ghana and to dispel fear and stigma surrounding the condition.
As the world rapidly urbanizes, a growing number of people with scoliosis find themselves outside the mainstream society due to lack of public education and awareness of the condition. People with the condition, are left without any education or vocation.
Scoliosis is not a disadvantage therefore these people should be cared for by their communities and society, but are in many cases forced to survive by themselves on the streets.
We see the need to put these people under one umbrella to support them through interventions that respond to their condition, social and intellectual needs and to create awareness in the Ghanaian society- putting smile on their face and bringing hope to them at the same time.

SFG EDUCATES STUDENTS ON SCOLIOSIS
The SFG team in June 2016 visited the ALKO International School at Jamestown near Mudor in Accra to create awareness on the signs of scoliosis. Over 1000 pupils, teachers and management of the school were educated on scoliosis. Various videos and documentaries on the condition were demonstrated to the audience. It was amazing to know that about 99 percent of the audience never knew about scoliosis, indicating the need to expand the awareness campaign.
Further Screening and Education on Scoliosis organised by SFG
SFG held another scoliosis awareness campaign at the Sempe 1 public school in Accra, in June 2016 again. Pupils were screened by experts of scoliosis who were from FOCOS. FOCOS was in partnership with SFG on this project. People in and around the Accra Metropolis attended. The public were educated on the signs of the condition, and were very happy to know more about the condition. Prior to the event, majority confirmed knowing nothing about it.
